  4. BOSTON, MA -- January 11, 1993 -- Novell, Inc. today announced three new
  5. products to facilitate the development of messaging applications software.
  6. The NetWare Standard Message Format (SMF) v71 Programmer's Reference, the
  7. NetWare SMF v71 Software Developer's Kit (SDK) for MHS and NetWare Basic MHS-
  8. are now available to software developers.

  10. This NetWare SMF v71 SDK, which includes the NetWare SMF v71 Programmer's
  11. Reference, meets developer needs for comprehensive, cost-effective messaging
  12. development tools.  Additionally, the NetWare Basic MHS meets customer needs
  13. for upgrading a pilot messaging application server to a business-wide
  14. distributed system based on NetWare Global MHS- (Formerly, NetWare Global
  15. Messaging).

  17. NetWare SMF, the native API to Novell's NetWare MHS product line offers
  18. simplicity, reliability and inherent multiplatform support which has resulted
  19. in its widespread use.  It is currently used by over 900 commercial and
  20. corporate developers.  More than 150 commercial applications and services are
  21. available for an estimated 2.5 million installed MHS mailboxes.  These
  22. messaging applications range from electronic mail and network fax service to
  23. workflow, scheduling and forms processing.

  31. NetWare SMF v71 Programmer's Reference

  33. The new Programmer's Reference provides the complete specification for the
  34. file-based NetWare SMF v71 API.  NetWare SMF v71 is the newest generation SMF
  35. API and builds on earlier versions to answer developer needs for unlimited
  36. recipients, unlimited message size, expanded distribution lists and long names
  37. with hierarchical multipart workgroups.

  39. NetWare SMF v71 Software Developer's Kit for MHS
  40.  
  41. The NetWare SMF v71 SDK includes the SMF v71 Programmer's Reference, and both
  42. a 20 and 100 mailbox version of NetWare Global MHS.  It enables developers to
  43. create and test SMF-based applications in a variety of messaging system
  44. configurations.  In addition, the SDK allows developers to utilize NetWare
  45. Global MHS features such as directory  services and network-based message
  46. routing.

  48. NetWare Basic MHS

  50. NetWare Basic MHS is a simple, compact MHS-compatible delivery system for a
  51. single NetWare server configuration.  As an OEM solution for commercial
  52. developers, it provides an entry-level platform which may be bundled with
  53. their products eliminating the requirement to purchase a separate messaging
  54. service.  NetWare Basic MHS supports all messaging applications written to the
  55. SMF API for users on a single NetWare server.  Organizations can use NetWare
  56. Basic MHS initially to evaluate messaging solutions in a single-server
  57. environment, yet maintain complete upward compatibility with NetWare Global
  58. MHS to support multiple messaging server environments.

  61. infrastructure for message delivery, it was difficult to package a complete
  62. solution for our customers,"  said Bill Nussey, chief executive officer of
  63. DaVinci Systems, Inc.  "NetWare Basic MHS enables us to do this in a way that
  64. ensures interoperability with other MHS-based applications and compatibility
  65. with Novell's full service messaging engine, NetWare Global MHS."

  70. Programmer's Reference, registered Novell developers benefit from a variety of
  71. services, development tools and Novell products like the NetWare SMF v71 SDK
